John is a second generation Houstonian and a second generation State Farm Agent. He opened his State Farm Houston agency, in1966, shortly after graduating from The University of Texas with a degree in accounting. He moved his office to Sugar Land in 1983. He is married to Dianne, who taught in FBISD for over twenty years. They have four children and six grandchildren. John and Dianne are members of Second Baptist Church and Sweetwater CC. He is a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock and Rodeo and rode his cutting horse, Hagans Playboy, to the National Cutting Horse Association's World Championship in 2003. John has served on several charity boards and is active in Texas politics. He has long enjoyed golf, fly fishing, bay fishing, bass fishing, big game hunting, and cooking. He is often heard saying, "Do or do not, there is no try!" and "Love is Something You Do."
